 I was able to make enough bottoms and top hoops using 4'x2' and 2'x2' oak veneer press board. |
 Here is a close up image. I broke into it so you could see the inside. Hopefully this will give a clue to what I'm using. It seems to be very strong and heavy. I have tried to use pine in the past without success. The pine would split when tightening down the hoops. Real oak wood is very expensive. The wood I'm using here feels as heavy as real oak wood. |
 I drilled a 1/8" hole for the pin. I wanted to get as close to the edge as possible and utilize as much wood as possible. I used a circle jig that I purchased here. Link You also need to use a 1/4" cutting bit. |
 I used the 10 1/16" circle jig hole to cut the outside diameter. Increase the depth of the cut a little at a time. I made about 3 passes. |
 I screwed down the circle to keep it in place while I make the remainder of the cuts. I set the router to cut a depth of about 1/2" I will now be cutting the groove for the mesh head. I'm using 3/4" press board so that would leave me 1/4" of wood to press down on the hoop when tightening. Any less the 1/4" may rip out when tightening down the hoops. |
 I used the 8 9/16" circle jig hole to start cutting the 1/2" deep groove. I made one pass with the router. After every pass I decreased the measurement of the circle jig 1/8" until I reached the 8 1/16" circle jig hole. At the 8 1/16" circle jig hole setting I finished cutting down through the wood making a few more passes increasing the depth a little at a time. |
 That's all there is to it. Now you have a 8" wood hoop. The outside diameter for the bottoms is the same as the top. I used the 10 1/16" circle jig hole to cut the bottoms. I used the 7 13/16" circle jig hole to cut the 1/4" deep groove for the plastic bucket piece to sit down into. |
